Your existing Tally setup may already cover accounting, inventory and manufacturing requirements. Start with a gap assessment for your particular plant. Naffo can be evaluated for recipe versioning, batch records, quality checks and dairy procurement, with supported records exchanged through its independent connector. Define the role of each system instead of assuming that a capability is absent from the other product.

What a food manufacturer should require from a Tally add-on

Add-ons vary enormously in how much of the food-manufacturing chain they actually implement. These are the capabilities worth insisting on, in the order they tend to matter for an Indian food or dairy SME.

• Recipe management with versions. Yield comparison across batches is meaningless if the recipe changed silently in between. Versioning is what makes a yield trend trustworthy.
• Batch production with planned vs actual. The batch record must force the material balance to tie — input, good output, by-product, rework, rejection and measured loss.
• By-product allocation. Whey, cream, skimmed milk, trim and residue carry real value. Crediting them back is the difference between a costing that guides pricing and one that misleads it.
• FEFO issue and expiry. For perishables the receipt order is irrelevant; the expiry order is everything.
• QC gating at in-process and finished-goods stages. A spec failure caught at dispatch costs many times one caught in-process.
• A two-way Tally sync. Without it the add-on becomes a second silo, and someone ends up re-typing vouchers — which is the problem you set out to remove.

Rolling it out without disturbing the books

1. 01Import the Tally masters

   Party names, stock items and opening balances come across from Tally in one step. This is the accuracy gate for everything that follows — names must match character for character, because that is how the Connector finds the ledger to post to.

2. 02Document the top ten recipes

   You do not need every recipe on day one. Get the ten SKUs that carry most of your volume into naffo.tech with their input materials and expected yield, and extend from there.

3. 03Install the Tally Connector

   Naffo’s independently developed connector exchanges supported records with a configured Tally installation. Confirm document types, direction, master mappings and permissions during setup, then monitor failures and reconcile totals. Custom fields and specialised workflows need separate validation.

4. 04Train the plant and field team

   Closing a batch on a phone takes under two minutes once trained, and raising a GST invoice takes about thirty seconds. Most plants are operating on naffo.tech within a week.

5. 05Verify at the first month-end

   Run the GST summary in naffo.tech and compare it against Tally for the same period. A clean match is your evidence that the add-on and the system of record agree.

The demo test that settles the evaluation

Before committing to any add-on, make the vendor run this sequence live using your own product and your own numbers. It exercises the whole chain in one sitting and it is difficult to fake.

1. 1Record a purchase of your key raw material — milk, flour, oil, whatever you actually buy — with a supplier lot number.
2. 2Record an incoming QC check with FAT and SNF, or the equivalent spec for your product.
3. 3Plan and run a batch against a versioned recipe. Capture actual input, good output, by-product and reason-coded wastage.
4. 4Show yield %, wastage % and the rupee cost of that batch on screen, without an Excel export.
5. 5Raise a GST sales invoice for the finished batch and generate the e-invoice.
6. 6Confirm the invoice has been posted to Tally as a voucher by the Connector.

Dairy procurement: the widest part of the add-on

For a dairy plant the add-on carries more weight than anywhere else, because milk procurement is a long operational chain that ends in an accounting entry. naffo.tech's dairy module covers farmer and centre registration, morning and evening collection sessions, FAT/SNF rate charts, route-wise collection, gate passes, weighbridge entries, in-plant QC and farmer settlement.

Each of those steps is handled in naffo.tech and the financial outcome is posted to Tally: the settlement run produces the payable per farmer, and those amounts appear in the Tally ledgers without the accountant entering them. The rate chart is applied automatically from the measured FAT and SNF, which also removes the arithmetic disputes that erode farmer trust.
